Iceland's Prime Minister, Geir Haarde, has told reporters in Reykjavik that his government intends to honour all its obligations even though the country is on the brink of national bankruptcy.
In an exclusive interview with TV news channel, Russia Today, Haarde admitted that he has asked Moscow for a loan of four billion euros to ease cash flow in Iceland which has been devastated by the global financial crisis. Over the weekend the government was forced to nationalise its three biggest banks. On Tuesday, the Icelandic stock exchange resumed trading for the first time since its suspension last Thursday and it immediately fell a crippling 76 percent.
