Fire fighters in the US state of California are bracing for more winds as they battle to contain two wildfires that have left at least two people dead and forced thousands to flee their homes. More than 6,000 hectares have so far been scorched by the twin blazes burning on the northern outskirts of Los Angeles.
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared a state of emergency in the region. The National Weather Service has predicted that winds, packing speeds of up to 110 kph, will continue gusting until Wednesday. The exact causes of the two fires are unknown.
