The Afghan government has approached NATO for help in fighting the country's booming opium trade.
Afghan defence minister Abdel Rahim Wardak made the troop request at the start of NATO defence minister talks in Budapest. Currently, Afghanistan's police is responsible for the fight against opium drug lords, who are helping fund the Taliban insurgency with their income.
