A suspected suicide bomber has attacked the main police headquarters in the centre of Pakistan's capital Islamabad.
Unconfirmed reports say several people were wounded by the blast at the Police Lines complex.
One police official told AFP that eight people had been killed.
A senior police officer said the bomber had managed to get inside the compound.
The incident comes just over two weeks after more than 50 people were killed and more than 260 wounded in a suicide bombing at the city's Marriott hotel.
It also happened as parliament met in a special joint session for a second day for a classified security briefing on Pakistan's internal security situation.
The joint session of parliament was called to try to help form a national consensus on how to tackle Islamic militancy and the recent surge in suicide bombings.
