After initial positive reactions to the interest rate cuts, stock markets on both sides of the Atlantic have failed to sustain minor rallies.
New York's Dow Jones index has fluctuated above and below Tuesday's closing levels. Most European bourses have ended trading near their intraday lows of five to six percent. Asian markets, which had closed before the interest rate action, suffered massive losses, headed by Japan's Nikkei index, which lost around nine percent of its value.
