Malaysia's Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will step down from office next March, according to a senior ruling party official.
The move will effectively hand power to Mr Abdullah's deputy Najib Razak.
Mr Abdullah has been under pressure to quit since leading the ruling National Front coalition to disastrous general election results earlier this year.
