04.10.2008 - White to join Aussie Test squad

Australia have called all-rounder Cameron White into their squad for the Test series against India, which starts in Bangalore next Thursday.
White will replace spin bowler Bryce McGain, who has a shoulder injury.

The 25-year-old was recently in the sub-continent, captaining Australia A in a one-day series against India A.
"We feel Cameron's leg-spin and experience in Indian conditions is the correct option," chief selector Andrew Hilditch commented.
"Cameron's bowling has continued to improve over the past year at interstate level and his powerful batting adds extra depth and versatility to the squad.

"He has performed well in Australian colours since his return to the one-day international squad earlier this year and he has now been rewarded with inclusion in the Test squad."
White was preferred to left-arm spinner Beau Casson, who played a Test in the Caribbean earlier this year, and knows Bangalore well after appearing for the city's Royal Challngers franchise in the Indian Premier League.
He will join the squad on Monday and although he will not have a chance for any competitive action before the first Test, he will still come into contention for a place in Australia's side.
The injury to McGain left uncapped off-spinner Jason Krejza as the only specialist slow bowler in the squad.
But Krejza struggled in Australia's warm-up game against an Indian Board President's XI, conceding 123 runs from 20 overs in the first innings without taking a wicket.
As a youngster, White was touted as the next Shane Warne.
His bowling has failed to reach the lofty heights of Australia's all-time leading Test wicket-taker, and his 161 first-class victims have cost him 38 runs each.
He has, however, played 21 limited overs internationals and two Twenty20 matches for Australia and now has chance to pit his bowling skills against India's formidable batting line-up.
The series includes four Tests, with Australia looking to repeat their 2004 series win in India and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
