Czech-U.S.scientific cooperation agreement not to be signed today ... head of the Belarus elections commission says no opposition candidate won a seat in the Belarussian parliament in Sunday's election.
Seventy-two opposition candidates were allowed to compete for some of the 110 seats, in what was seen as a bid for Western approval by President Alexander Lukashenko. Hundreds have protested in Belarus, saying the vote was a farce. Election monitors from the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe are to give their assessment of the poll later on Monday. Since the mid-1990s, no election in Belarus has been deemed free and fair by the West.
