Japan's new transport minister has resigned only four days after starting work.
Media reports said Nariaki Nakayama had resigned because of a series of controversial remarks he had made. These reportedly included disparaging comments about the main teachers' union. Nakayama also angered Japan's aboriginal Ainu people by describing Japan as "ethnically homogenous". Japanese media say the resignation is a setback for the new prime minister, Taro Aso, who already has an approval rating of less than 50 percent.
