Pirates off the coast of Somalia have seized a Ukrainian ship carrying over 30 tanks.
The vessel, whose whereabouts was unknown on Friday, had been heading for the Kenyan port of Mombasa with a crew of 17 Ukrainian nationals, three Russians and one Latvian when it was boarded by pirates on Thursday. Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has called an emergency meeting of the country's National Security Council to discuss means of locating and freeing the sailors. Piracy is rife off the lawless Somali coast, with armed groups now holding over a dozen ships and around 200 crew members captive.
