United States President George W.
Bush has used his farewell address to the UN General Assembly to focus on the War on Terror. Six years after warning the UN General Assembly it risked being irrelevant to global affairs, Bush warned that the United Nations is "needed more urgently than ever" to fight extremism. United Nations chief Ban Ki-Moon opened the UN General Assembly's annual debate, calling for global leadership to tackle the world's worsening financial, energy and food crises. He pressed the gathering of more than 120 world leaders not to pursue narrow national interests in the face of hard economic times.
