The dispute is shaping up to become the country's worst political crisis since the end of apartheid. Parliament was widely expected, in two days time, to endorse Kgalema Motlanthe as South Africa's new President until next year's elections. Thabo Mbeki was forced to resign following a long-running power struggle with ruling ANC party leader, Jacob Zuma.
