The Egyptian Foreign Ministry says negotiations are continuing to secure the release of 19 abducted people.
The group includes a number of foreign tourists, among them five Germans, five Italians and a Romanian. The foreign ministry said an earlier announcement that the hostages were free was false. Egyptian security sources said masked men abducted the group in southern Egypt and took the hostages across the border into Sudan. The kidnappers are demanding a ransom of up to 6 million euros for their release.
