A car bomb has detonated in the northern Iraqi town of Tal Afar, killing at least 16 people.
Security sources say 20 others were injured. The bomb went off near a marketplace. Tal Afar lies 450 kilometres north of Baghdad, near Mosul, in an area where US-backed Iraqi forces have in recent months launched a crackdown on al Qaeda Sunni Arab militants.
