The chairman of German air carrier Lufthansa has called on the pilots' union, Cockpit, to return to the negotiating table to try to end a strike that has forced dozens of flights to be cancelled over the past 24 hours.
Speaking in a newspaper interview, Wolfgang Mayrhuber said pilots with Lufthansa regional subsidiary CityLine already earned as much as 25 percent more than pilots with other regional air carriers. The pilots went out on strike on Thursday to back up their demands for higher pay. Lufthansa officials say CityLine will have to cancel as many as 140 flights this Friday.
