Russia has warned that South Ossetia, a region that broke away from Georgia in the early 1990s, is close to what it called a "large-scale" military conflict.
This follows denials by Georgia that its forces were responsible for six deaths in clashes on Friday and Saturday. Georgia blamed what it called separatist provocation while South Ossetian blamed Georgian sniper fire and said it was evacuating hundreds of children to Russia.
