Peace efforts in Somalia were set back further on Saturday when two thirds of the country's interim cabinet resigned. The 10 ex-ministers were allies of President Abdullah Yusuf who has been at odds with Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein over the recent sacking of Mogadishu's mayor. His forces had been trying to tackle Islamist rebels accused of frequent attacks on government targets, Ethiopian forces who intervened in 2006, and African Union peacekeepers.
