Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda has vowed to fight price hikes and jump-start a lacklustre economy following a major cabinet reshuffle.
Earlier, Fukuda called the first meeting of his new cabinet members after they were sworn in by Emperor Akihito at the Imperial Palace. Fukuda named the new cabinet filled with heavyweights on Friday in a last-ditch bid to revive waning public support. The Japanese leader's popularity has plunged since he took over last September with voters feeling worse off amid rising global oil and food prices.
