Former Bosnian Serb leader and war crimes suspect Radovan Karadzic has told the UN Tribunal in The Hague, Netherlands, that in 1996 US peace negotiator Richard Holbrooke had promised he would avoid trial if he withdrew from public life.
In a written statement to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, Karadzic also complained that he would not receive a fair trial. Holbrooke, who helped broker the Dayton peace agreement that ended the Bosnian war, has rejected Karadzic's claims. Karadzic faces a list of charges including crimes against humanity and genocide committed during the 1992 to 1995 war.
