Weak Turnout in Serbian Election May Benefit Anti-Western Bloc ... the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague.
The war crimes tribunal had pushed for his extradition since his arrest in Belgrade on July 21. The announcement of his transfer comes just hours after Serbian riot police clashed with several hundred Karadzic supporters in the capital. 45 people were injured in the violence that occured on the sidelines of a rally of 15,000 Serb nationalists who were demonstrating against his planned extradition. Karadzic has been twice indicted for genocide for the siege of Sarajevo and for the 1995 massacre of some 8,000 Muslims at Srebrenica, the worst atrocity in Europe since World War Two.
