Mbeki condemns anti-foreigner violence ... Africa and the European Union are holding their first-ever summit in the French city of Bordeaux. The main focus of the summit will be on enhancing trade between South Africa and the EU, its biggest investor.
But differences over how to deal with Zimbabwean leader Robert Mugabe are threatening to overshadow the top level meeting. The EU favors sanctions to pressure Mugabe to share power with the opposition, but South African President Thabo Mbeki has argued against sanctions.
