Russia follows Georgia and Ukraine's NATO ambitions with apprehension.
Russia says it would be a great strategic mistake if the two countries joined NATO. It is due to Moscow's apprehension that neither Georgia nor Ukraine has as yet received an invitation to participate in the Membership Action Plan (MAP) that is preparation for NATO membership.
