Hurricane Dolly caused severe damage as it battered the US-Mexico coast overnight with winds of up to 160 kilometres an hour, damaging buildings, power lines and ripping out trees. In the Mexican city of Matamoros, an estimated quarter of a million people have been left without drinking water.
Dolly has now weakened and been downgraded to a tropical storm. Flood threats persist however across the Texas-Mexican border region.
