Brown held talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and acting-Prime Minister Salam Fayyad in the occupied West Bank town of Bethlehem on Sunday. At a joint press conference with Abbas Brown criticised Israel's settlement policy and denounced terrorism in the region. Brown also emphasized that economics were the key to Mideast peace, and said Israel should ease travel restrictions in the West Bank that have hindered commerce. Brown's visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories follows a stop in Iraq, where he met with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. He will wrap up his visit to Isreal on Monday afternoon, after addressing the Knesset, the first British premier to do so.
