Kaczynski will, however, most probably meet his Czech counterpart Vaclav Klaus at the presidential chateau in Lany, central Bohemia. According to hitherto information, the topics of their discussion would include the future of the European Union. The Czech Republic will preside the union in the first six months of 2009. It is speculated that Kaczynski might plead with Klaus to change his negative stand on the Lisbon treaty that Klaus considers dead after the Irish rejected it in referendum. EU needs Czechs on its path to better future - EP president ... not block the adoption of the treaty that is to overhaul the EU institutions. Klaus is the sole leading politician in Europe who clearly rejects the Lisbon treaty. According to sources from the seat of the French President, Kaczynski promised to personally work for the treaty to be approved by all countries. He allegedly wants to use his friendly and long-lasting relations with Klaus. France took over the half-year EU presidency on July 1. The Austrian APA news agency released the date of Kaczynski's Prague visit on Monday. The Czech Republic refused to confirm it then.
