Ricco follows Spanish riders Moises Duenas Nevado and Manuel Beltran in failing a test during this year's Tour.
"It's for the same product as the other two," said Pierre Bordry, president of the French anti-doping agency.
"He hasn't been notified yet but will be in the next few minutes."
Ricco tested positive after the fourth stage, the same stage as Duenas Nevado's failed test, last week added Bordry.
