In Madrid, Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah has opened an unprecedented conference of Muslims, Christians, Jews and other faiths and called for "new page for humanity".
Jewish and Christian leaders said Abdullah had taken a ground-breaking step to fight the forces of religious fanaticism. Abdullah launched the dialogue plan after meeting Pope Benedict at the Vatican last November. The three-day conference in the Spanish capital aims to display a more tolerant side of Saudi Arabia's strict Wahhabi Islam. It is the first time Saudi Arabia, where non-Muslims cannot practice their faith openly, has invited Jews to such a meeting.
