Three months after the elections, 15 percent of voters regretted their decision. Voters of the current junior ruling Greens (SZ) regret their decision in the 2006 elections most frequently. Almost 40 percent of them as well as over one-fourth of the senior government Civic Democrat (ODS) voters say they made a wrong decision two years ago, the poll shows. On the contrary, most voters of the junior government Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL), the senior opposition Social Democrats (CSSD) and the opposition Communists (KSCM) are satisfied with their support for Czech Social Democrat MPs trust leaders after Wolf's departure ...
Czech ODS, KSCM have low coalition potential-poll ...
Some Czech Communists want to radically change party policy - MP ... these parties in the 2006 polls. Nine in ten KSCM voters, almost four-fifths of CSSD voters and the same share of KDU-CSL voters think so. More than seven in ten ODS voters and three-fifth of SZ voters are of the view that their choice in the 2006 elections was right. However, in September 2006 more than nine in ten ODS voters and almost four-fifths of SZ voters were satisfied with their choice. The current reservations of SZ voters prove that this party's electorate is unstable.
On the other hand, support of KSCM and CSSD voters is very stable, STEM says. The disappointment at the 2006 inconclusive elections, ending in a right-left draw, is also reflected in the respondents' decision to take part in the next general election, due in 2010. Almost all voters who say they made the right decision in the 2006 polls would also participate in the next elections. On the contrary a half of those who regret their decision two years ago either hesitate to vote in the next elections or would not go to the polls, according to the STEM poll conducted on June 13-23 on 1244 respondents over 18. The ODS won the 2006 elections with 35 percent of the vote, followed by the CSSD gaining 32 percent and the KSCM with 13 percent. The KDU-CSL ended fourth with 7 percent, followed by the Greens who received 6 percent and entered parliament for the first time in Czech history. However, the right and the left parties had the same number of mandates in the 200-seat lower house, which complicated talks on a new government. After months of negotiations, the centre-right coalition cabinet of the ODS, the KDU-CSL and the SZ was formed that won confidence in the lower house only thanks to the support of some deputies who deserted from the CSSD. The cabinet assumed power in January 2007. According to the latest polls, the CSSD now enjoys the highest support ahead of the ODS. All other three parliamentary parties would again enter the lower house if elections were held now.
