Far-Right NPD Loses Appeal, Faces Hefty Fine ... propose a one-off subsidy to families with small children and to pensioners in compensation for the financial impact of the centre-right government's reforms and soaring inflation. The CSSD wants children to be paid 2,000 crowns and pensioners 3,000 crowns before Christmas. Labour and Social Affairs Minister Petr Necas (ODS) previously called the proposals populist. In the 10-million Czech Republic, about 2.7 million people, including 2 million old-age pensioners, receive old age, disability or widow and widower's pensions. This is for the second time the CSSD proposes a one-off subsidy to pensioners.
Earlier this year it proposed that pensioners receive a subsidy of 6,000 crowns in June. The lower house turned down the proposal. Topolanek's government recently decided to raise monthly pensions by 470 crowns as of August. ($1=15.044 crowns)
