German Chancellor Angela Merkel has warned on the eve of the G-8 summit in Japan that rising food prices could lead to international disruptions.
In a German pre-summit statement, Merkel said food shortages and conflicts over food distribution could put democracy at risk and destabilise countries. She also said that major industrial nations had to underscore their intent to maintain commitments made at last year's summit in Germany to cut greenhouse gas emissions in half by the year 2050.
