Thefirefighters had to be escorted by police as they put out more than 100 fires overnight. Garbage problems have plagued Naples for years. The latest crisis broke out around Christmas when collectors stopped picking up the trash because there was no more room at dumps. Solving the crisis was a campaign promise of recently elected Premier Silvio Berlusconi.
