Jimmy Mizen, who turned 16 a day before his death, suffered a fatal neck injury from a shard of glass at the Three Cooks bakery store in Lee, on 10 May.

His mother said there were "not enough hugs and love in this world" as she arrived for the service at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Lee.

Jake Fahri, 19, of Lee, has been charged with his murder.

'Gentle giant'

Jimmy's mother Margaret also vowed not to let bitterness destroy her family as she arrived for the 1200 BST service.

She spoke of how her faith had given her strength and urged people not to blame the family of the suspect in her son's killing.

"Anger breeds anger, and bitterness will destroy my family if I'm not careful - and I won't allow that to happen," she said.

Fighting back tears and comforting each other as they spoke, Barry, 56, and Margaret Mizen, 55, called on people to look out for each other as they dealt with their grief.

Mrs Mizen said her son was born on Cup Final Day in 1992 and described him as a "gorgeous baby" .

The cross-denominational service will service includes ministers from the local Anglican churches.

There will be a two-minute silence, which will be followed by various prayers and hymns and a blessing by Bishop Patrick Lynch.

After the service at the church, where Jimmy served as an altar boy and was baptised, his family is expected to visit the scene where he died.

They will hold a period of silence, say prayers and lay flowers.

Large numbers of people are expected to attend the church service.

Jimmy's parents Barry and Margaret paid loving tribute to their "happy-go-lucky" son following a leavers' Mass outside his school, St Thomas More Catholic Comprehensive in Eltham, south-east London, on Monday.

Described as a "gentle giant", Jimmy, who was 6ft 4in (1.92m), and a committed Christian, was due to embark on an apprenticeship in the housing department at Southwark Council.

He leaves behind his parents and six brothers and two sisters - Tommy, Joanne, both 35, Danny, 30, Billy, 28, Bobby, 24, Samantha, 21, Harry, 18 and George, eight.

Mr Fahri is due to next appear at the Old Bailey in August.

Jimmy was the 13th teenager to be killed in London this year.
