The South African amputee sprinter Oscar Pistorius who uses artifical legs has won an appeal opening the chance for him to compete at the Beijing Olympics.
Pistorius runs on carbon fibre blades attached to his upper legs. The ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne overtunes a ban imposed by the International Association of Athletics Federations. The IAAF had barred Pistorius from its events, claiming his blades gave him an unfair advantage over other sprinters. To reach Beijing, Pistorius still has to achieve the minimum Olympic qualifying time of 45.95 seconds over 400 metres.
