A strong aftershock has triggered landslides near the epicenter of this week's powerful earthquake in central China.
The new tremblor measured 5.5 on the Richter scale according to the US Gelogical Survey and again cut off the already ravaged region. With survivors still being found alive after being buried in rubble for 96 hours, Beijing has raised the death toll to more than 22,000 with thousands more victims believed buried. Chinese President Hu Jintao has flown to the city of Mianyang in Sichuan province, where he called for efforts to be stepped up in what he described as the most crucial phase of the rescue operations.
