Taiwan warned over independence ... people are known to have been killed and another 25,000 are believed to be trapped under rubble. The Chinese government has agreed to allow Japan and Taiwan to send emergency rescue teams to help with efforts to search for possible survivors of the earthquake in the south-western province of Sichuan. The Ministry of Industry has also made a public plea for equipment from hand tools to heavy machinery to help rescuers, many of whom have been shown working with their bare hands.
