German Chancellor Angela Merkel has called for cooperation on biofuels at a meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Lula di Silva. The two leaders met in Brazil's capital on the first day of Merkel's Latin-America tour.
The Chancellor urged Brazil to continue to produce evironmentally-friendly biofuels, but stressed that they have to be used "in a sustainable way" saying they should not be allowed to cause further destruction of the country's rainforests. Also on the agenda will be an EU-Latin America summit, which is to take place at the end of the week in Peru.
