The European Union has sent a top aid official to Burma to urge the military regime there to allow in aid workers and relief supplies to help victims of Cyclone Nargis.
Louis Michel said the aim of his visit was purely humanitarian and that he would ask the authorities to be more understanding. His trip follows emergency talks in Brussels, where EU development ministers called on Burmese leaders to give international aid experts free access to an estimated 1.5 million survivors.
