Serbian President Boris Tadic has claimed victory for his Democratic Party in Sunday's parliamentary elections.
Following the release of partial results, he told supporters at his party's headquarters in Belgrade that Serbian voters had chosen a clear path towards Europe. Serbia's PM Kostunica stands down ... closer ties with Russia. Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica's Democratic Party of Serbia took around 11 percent, which could put him in a position to determine who forms the next government. The snap elections were called after the coalition of Kostunica's and Tadic's parties fell apart over the unilateral declaration of independence by the former Serbian province of Kosovo earlier this year. Most EU countries have recognised Kosovo as an independent state.
