Speaking to reporters in Washington, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice called on Burma's junta to remove all obstacles for foreign relief personnel. United Nations' Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon asked the Burmese government to respond to the international support of both aid workers and supplies as quickly as possible. The top US diplomat to Burma says that the death toll from Cyclone Nargis may reach 100,000. Burmese state media have reported that 23,000 people were killed and another 42,000 are missing.
