Germany's first alliance between a conservative and green party has taken office in the northern city-state of Hamburg.
Ole von Beust, Hamburg's Christian Democrat mayor has been approved by the region's parliament to head the new administration. The CDU lost its absolute majority in Hamburg in elections last February and agreed to form a coalition with the Greens in April, following protracted negotiations.
