Burmese state-run media say the death toll from Cyclone Nargis has now risen to over 350.
The Myaddy television station said that the cyclone killed over one hundred people on Haing Gyi island off the country's southwest coast, while over 200 died in the low-lying Irawaddy delta. The military government has declared disaster areas in five states. Cyclone Nargis hit on Saturday morning with winds of up to 190 km per hour and left the streets of Burma's commercial capital, Rangoon, littered with debris from fallen trees and battered buildings. United Nations disaster experts said it would be days before the full extent of the damage was known.
