The Social Democrats (CSSD) and the Communists (KSCM) did not win at least 101 votes in the 200-seat lower house that were necessary for their motion of no confidence in the cabinet to succeed. Czech Communists want public vote in presidential poll ... attended the vote today. The no confidence motion was supported by 98 of them - all deputies for the CSSD and the KSCM and former CSSD deputy Evezen Snitily, now independent. On the other hand, the government was backed by all the 99 coalition deputies present, along with another two former CSSD and now independent deputies, Milos Melcak and Michal Pohanka. The government, which comprises the Civic Democrats (ODS), the Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL) and the Greens (SZ), has 100 seats in the lower house.
Deputy Petr Gandalovic (ODS), the agriculture minister, was absent from the vote today.
