Zimbabwe opposition gives results ... opposition's second-in-command has urged the UN Security Council to appoint a special envoy to help resolve the worsening humanitarian and political crisis in the country following last month's elections.
Tendai Biti, secretary general of the Movement for Democratic Change party said in New York that the UN needed to take charge for a transitional period. Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has yet again postponed releasing the results of the presidential election held one month ago. An official, speaking after the UN Security Council held a closed meeting to discuss Zimbabwe, said the country was in the midst of its worst humanitarian crisis since independence from Britain.
