29.04.2008 - Czech-born architect Kaplicky adapts NK design for original plot
The necessary changes in the zoning plan have so far been mentioned as one of the obstacles preventing the building of the new library on Letna.
"Our team has found a new solution that would allow to build the library on the land plots on Letna that the Prague City Hall originally approved for the sale to the National Library," Kaplicky told CTK.
Kaplicky's team declined to comment on the possibility of the construction of the library elsewhere in Prague.

"By this we also want to deny that our project can be implemented anywhere else in the world," he said, adding that the Future Systems was prepared to continue the preparation for the construction on the original place.
"We are only waiting for the orders by the National Library and the Culture Ministry," he said.
Meanwhile National Gallery director Milan Knizak proposed to locate the library in Prague's Congress Centre (KCP) that would need a reconstruction for this.
However, Prague Mayor Pavel Bem said the new solution could only be discussed after it was clear that the preparation for the construction on Letna cannot continue.
The National Library, now seated in the Klementinum historical building in the centre of Prague, badly needs a new building very soon because it is running out of capacity and the conditions for keeping books are not suitable.
The nine-storey building shaped as a broad pyramid with rounded edges, dubbed "octopus" or "blob," has raised emotional reactions and divided the public as well as experts and politicians into the camps of its supporters and opponents, including President Vaclav Klaus.
Teams of experts and politicians have been discussing the circumstances of the new NK construction for a couple of months now and the NK fears that it will not have the new spaces in time.
