In an action for the protection of personal rights, Bobosikova, a former journalist, demanded that Zelezny, her former superior in Czech commercial station TV Nova, apologise to her for what she called untrue and inappropriate statements about her, which he allegedly spread in the media. Bobosikova and Zelezny, TV Nova's former director, were both elected to the EP in 2004 for the Independents movement.
Shortly afterwards, however, a dispute broke out between them. After she became an MEP, Bobosikova said she would not support the Independents movement due to the growing influence of Zelezny. KSCM fields Bobosikova as candidate in Czech presidential poll ... also criticised Bobosikova for having hired her husband as her assistant in the EP. According to Zelezny, someone assigned the Bobosiks to oust him from the Independents movement and thwart his political career. Their dispute resulted in Bobosikova suing Zelezny. She said Zelezny had crossed the framework of admissible criticism and some of his assertions are a blatant lie. Zelezny defended himself pointing to his right to criticise his political rivals within the political struggle. The Prague City court last year decided that politicians can settle personal accounts via the media to which they have unlimited access. If the court complied with the lawsuit, this could be an interference in the freedom of speech and in the right to criticism.
