Tension in Czech government due to presidential election ... should instead run in the regional elections, or possibly in the Senate elections in order to defend her mandate in public eyes. Kuchtova is a local assembly member in Cesky Krumlov, south Bohemia. He was reacting to a resolution of the party branch in South Bohemia, the home organisation of Kuchtova, former education minister, that expressed no confidence in Bursik. Kuchtova said that Bursik unnecessarily personifies intra-party disputes. She said she did not attend the weekend meeting and that she did not initiate the no-confidence motion. Kuchtova said she would not react to Bursik's calls on her that she runs in the elections. "I myself will decide where and when to run in the elections. I will defend my mandate," she said. The SZ organisation in Olomouc, north Moravia, approved a similarly sharp resolution and called on Bursik to resign as party head in February. The organisation is headed by Martin Tichy who, together with Kuchtova, is the loudest critic of Bursik. The South Bohemian Greens blamed Bursik for insufficiently pushing through and fulfilling the party programme, particularly in the economy, transport, foreign policy and health protection. The party national council confirmed Bursik in his post in early April. He himself asked for the vote when the council, acting at variance with his opinion, refused to consent to the stationing of a U.S. radar base in the Brdy military district, some 90km southwest of Prague. About one third of the council members voted confidence in him, which was sufficient for him to keep the post.
