He joined the Police Presidium in 2002. He was police president from September 2005 to May 2007. He resigned from the post due to alleged links to criminal affairs though none of the suspicions was confirmed. Under Interior Minister Ivan Langer (Civic Democrats, ODS), several changes in high posts in the police were made. In January, Robert Slachta replaced Jan Kubice as organised crime unit (UOOZ) head and Jiri Novak replaced Renata Strnadova in the post of anti-corruption police head.
