The latest leg of the Olympic torch relay is underway in South Korea.
The flame was once more greeted by protests and scuffles as it started its two-day journey on the divided Korean peninsula. Thousands of police were deployed across the capital Seoul in order to prevent disturbances. Demonstrators had vowed to disrupt the event to raise awareness of Chinese policies on North Korean refugees and Bejing's crackdown in Tibet. An hour into the relay, police prevented a North Korean defector from setting himself on fire with gasoline. Another protester had earlier rushed toward the flame in an attempt to unfurl a banner calling for China to respect the rights of North Korean refugees.
