He was hussled away together with hundreds of dignitaries when gunfire broke out at a military parade in Kabul. A defense ministry spokesman said the president, all cabinet members and foreign diplomats were safe. Two lawmakers have been reported wounded. The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack which was reportedly directed at the president. A Taliban spokesman said that six militants had launched the operation and that three of them had been killed in the attack. The incident took place during a celebration marking the 16th anniversary of the expulsion of Russians forces from Kabul.
