Hillary Clinton has kept her hopes of becoming the Democratic Party's candidate in November's US presidential election alive by defeating Barack Obama by 10 percentage points in the Pennsylvania primary.

Edwards 'quits' White House race ... out of the race had she not won big in Pennsylvania. Speaking to supporters in Philadelphia she reasserted her ambition to become the first American female president. Obama retains an overall lead of around 100 delegates to the Democratic Party convention which is to be held in August. The race continues next month in North Carolina, where Obama is favoured, and Indiana, which is said to be too close to call.
